Nitropaste for prevention and relief of vascular spasm.

چکیده
Surgical neuroangiographic procedures (therapeutic embolizations) in the head and neck are often complicated by vascular spasm, particularly in external carotid artery branches. Numerous methods to relieve spasm have been attempted, including intraarterial administration of nitroglycerin, papavarine, contrast material, and lidocaine [1 , 2]. Local infiltration with procaine has also been used [3]. Despite these measures, results are not always adequate, and procedures have had to be aborted . We report a very simple and evidently safe method to prevent vasospasm, which has proved effective in 10 cases. Nitropaste is a cutaneously applied nitroglycerin ointment that has conSistently had the vasodilatory effects we require without any of the complications sometimes encountered with other preparations.

Dobutamine stress echocardiography (DSE) has been widely used as a diagnostic and prognostic modality in the management of stress. DSE is associated with limited complications and adverse effects on the health of patients. In this case report, we described a 42-year-old female patient with dobutamine-induced coronary artery spasm with history of exertional dyspnea, which had deteriorated recent...

100 patients with hemifacial spasm treated by microvascular decompression are presented. There were 60 females and 40 males. Their ages ranged from 29 to 75 years with a median age of 54 years, and the left side was involved predominantly. The common focal signs were facial nerve palsy in 41 cases, diminished hearing in 14 cases, trigeminal neuralgia in 11 cases, and homolateral trigeminal...
متن کاملSuccessful treatment of cerebral vasospasm by use of transdermal nitroglycerin ointment (Nitropaste).
To our knowledge, the use of transdermal nitroglycerin ointment (Nitropaste) in the setting of intracranial vasospasm has not been described in the peer-reviewed literature. Five patients with intracranial vasospasm induced by subarachnoid hemorrhage were evaluated angiographically both before and after application of Nitropaste. All cases exhibited mild to moderate improvement in the degree of...
متن کاملMicrovascular decompression for hemifacial spasm: evaluating outcome prognosticators including the value of intraoperative lateral spread response monitoring and clinical characteristics in 293 patients.
Hemifacial spasm is a socially disabling condition that manifests as intermittent involuntary twitching of the eyelid and progresses to muscle contractions of the entire hemiface. Patients receiving microvascular decompression of the facial nerve demonstrate an abnormal lateral spread response (LSR) in peripheral branches during facial electromyography. The authors retrospectively evaluate the ...
